Our council hosted the Jamestown Public Schools Summer LEAP (Learning Enrichment and Academic Progress) program participants from Fletcher and Bush Schools as part of our day camp program. Students in grades first through fourth were treated to traditional scouting programs and activities like skits and songs, archery and crafts; as well as various stem activities like robotics, engineering and rocketry.
The week culminated in a field trip to Camp Merz where the participants launched water balloons, played human foosball, learned fire building skills, camp cooking and a nature walk. The field trip ended with a visit by the Chautauqua County Sheriff Canine Unit and a traditional campfire with the skits performed by the participants themselves.
The day camp was staffed by a combination of youth staff from both Camp Merz and Elk Lick Scout Reserve, adult scouters and our professional staff.
